Blackstar guitar amplifiers have quite rightly caused a major buzz in the music industry since their launch back in 2007. By upgrading the valves to our selected sets customers have been able to voice their amps to their personal requirements. Customers have reported a range of benefits when upgrading the valves over the factory items. Here we have listed our most common upgrades using current production and the best new old stock items to help you get the most out of these fine Blackstar amplifiers.
This Classic Philips Dario EF86 upgrade kit covers the Black Star Artisan 15 Head & combo. It is designed to provide the as close to the old Mullard tone as possible. The kit provides a tight driving rock sound with plenty of rich sustain and that Vox style top end chime.

The Harma ECC83 Retro provides a harmonically rich and detailed sound with excellent 3D midrange warmth. This valve has a traditional British voiced sound that has a huge singing sustaining tone when overdriven. The outstanding feature of this valve is its smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response so you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows.

The Harma EL84 Retro has a deep well defined tight bass that produces the classic slam of the Mullard in the bottom end. The midrange performance has been tweaked to provide warm clear detail at low volumes with clear articulation and smooth even distortion when the amplifier is cranked. This gives the amp a punchier British sound with that warm midrange response.

The heart of the Black Star's sound is the classic EF86 channel and in this kit we use an Original Philips made Dario EF86. Philips owned Mullard from 1926 and these Philips Dario EF86 are exactly the same as the Mullard. They were made in Holland and use the same mesh anode construction that Philips used on the Mullard EF86. This valve provides late breakup with superb dynamics and clarity under distortion.

This set gives that vintage warm Vox style chime and the EF86 Channel is not matched by any modern day EF86.
