The General Electric 6AU6WC Jan military grade valve is one of the best valves that we have come across for use in tube microphones and in vintage Hammonds.
The sonic performance of this tube for audio is superb. The valve is very quiet and has a warm musical sound with plenty of top end clarity and detail.
The GE 6AU6WC Jan was designed to work in extreme situations such as area with high levels of vibration, shock and high levels of heat. This made it an excellent choice or tube mics or Hammond organs.
The General Electric item is very popular in tube microphone applications such as the Sony C37a and C800G. We have supplied these for use in Calrec and Altec 21B microphones with excellent reports.
Customers have told us that in use they have more top end performance with a larger soundstage than other 6AU6 types. They also have improved clarity and are quieter than the Russian 6P2 and Chinese 6J4P, 6ZH4P types. It is no surprise that the GE 6AU6WC has become the number 1 choice and is used by many engineers for it warmth balance and superb accuracy.
This valve was also used in the Sony C37A, Sony C800 and Altec 21B microphones. They also offer and upgrade over the Russian 6P2 and Chinese 6J4P, 6ZH4P.
The 6AU6WC was designed to offer stable performance under conditions of high - temperature, vibration, shock and altitude. The W denotes the special quality and the final letter indicates the particular variant C being long life. These are fully interchangeable with the other 6AU6 types.
For vintage tube microphones that use the Original USA made tube the GE is the correct size unlike the larger diameter Russian and Chinese items. The glass envelope is 18 mm in diameter and excluding the B7G base pins the valve is 47 mm tall.
