Philips electronics components group was the name given to the products marketed in America after Philips bought the American valve manufacturer Sylvania in the early 1980’s. Sylvania was a major manufacturer of valves and Philips bought them to get the lucrative American Government and military contracts. These valves are specially selected and Cryo treated to offer the highest military grade construction and the ultimate sonic performance and were all made in the USA.
Original Military grade JAN specification 12AT7WC Philips that has been specially Cryo treated for use in critical positions in audio & studio equipment, tube microphones and in V1 positions guitar amplifier amps to reduce gain.

The benefit over the untreated Philips ECC81 12AT7WC is that the Cryo has more top end transparency and more treble detail. The Cryo enhances the mid band which results in greater mid band depth and clearer bottom end, it has the effect of it detailing the highs and tightening the lows.

The Philips 12AT7WC still retains its trademark warm midrange sound. The valve offers a lusher reverb than a standard item and has proved very popular in pedals to reduce the gain

Made in the USA for the American government, Philips continued to use the classic Sylvania design because of its robustness in military applications. The valve has a supported and rugged anode structure and is made with the highest quality components and materials.

In sonic terms, the valve is a super upgrade over many standard ECC81 types.

It has been one of the very best replacements ECC81/12AT7 for use in valve microphones as many customers have reported more warmth, clarity and detail when using the Philips 12AT7WC Cryo.
