Philips Electronics Components Group was the name given to the products marketed in America after Philips bought the American valve manufacturer Sylvania in the early 1980’s. Sylvania was a major manufacturer of valves and Philips bought them to get the lucrative American Government and military contracts. These valves are of the highest military grade which offer outstanding performance and were all made in the USA.

The American made Philips ECG EL84 is one of the best sounding EL84 for guitar and audio use. The valve shares the classic round cylindrical grey anode plate design

These 1980s production have two particular sound trademarks. The treble response is very clear and detailed giving this valve excellent treble clarity.

Sonically the midrange is very warm and open making this an excellent choice as it does give a lot more top end definition and a warm musical tone.

The other added bonus in guitar applications is that this valve distorts later than other nos American EL84 such as the General Electric and RCA valves. These come in the original government box and are full JAN specification which means that they were made using only the highest grade components.

When driven hard they produce a really aggressive crunchy sound giving the music a real punch. These are a super upgrade for Vox AC4 and Marshall Class 5.
