This has been due partly to some very clever designs but more importantly to some very fine sounding amplifiers. In these valve and speaker upgrade kits we have put together some of our most popular upgrades in order for you to get the best sound out of these excellent amplifiers
This Classic Philips 12BH7A upgrade kit covers the Black Star HT5C, HT5R and HT5-RC 1 x 12 combos and includes a Celestion G12M 25 Greenback. It is designed to provide the warm and woody crunchy tone for those who want a more the classic British rock and blues sound.

The Harma ECC83 Retro provides a harmonically rich and detailed sound with excellent 3D midrange warmth. This valve has a traditional British voiced sound that has a huge singing sustaining tone when overdriven. The outstanding feature of this valve is its smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response so you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows.

The Philips 12BH7A is an ideal choice as an output valve in the Blackstar. The valve has a rich musical and harmonic clarity which gives the amp a full and punchy clean tone. The valve has a deep and tight bass with a very warm and detailed mid band. It sounds great with pedals or clean boost units as this valves sound gets fatter the more you overdrive it. When the valve is pushed it produces a dynamic crunchy overdriven with a full fat creamy overdriven sound. This is the best new old stock valve I have found for this purpose

The Celestion G12M Greenback produces a smooth and warm sound but with enough top end clarity to supply a super clear tone. When pushed hard these speakers produce a warm vocal mid-range sound which is crunchy chords and sweet and fat on single note runs
