These valve are specially noise and gain selected for use in studio valve microphones that use an EF86. Original GEC special quality EF86 supplied under the CV4085 military code to the British Ministry of Defence.

These were made In England in the famous GEC valve factory in the UK. These valve came from a long term store and have not moved from the day they were put in there when shipped from GEC. So this is really the last chance find these items as they left the factory.

My contacts at MOD inform me that the CV4085 was the MOD preferred EF86, The Mullard EF86 supplied under CV2901 was low noise and vibration tested as was the GEC CV4085. They preferred the GEC CV4085 as the heater wire was wound as a double helix with a specified number of turns and pitch as specified by the MOD to minimise the external AC hum.

The valves come with government printed CV 4085 with date code and KB/Z which is GEC makers mark, .GEC sticker logo and wrapped in the cigar style packaging with the pin protector.

All valves have been thoroughly tested by us and I can honestly say that these along with the Telefunken dome top EF86 are the finest EF86 that I have tested in the last 30 years.

These are one of the lowest noise EF86 ever made and date from 1979 are the first choice for valve microphones or critical audio applications.
