Early EF86 Marconi in a special quality EF86 in Z729 format and were made In England in the famous Marconi Osram valve factory in the UK.

The Z729 was designed to be used in the early stages of high gain audio amplifiers, microphone pre-amplifiers and magnetic tape recorders. Marconi designed the assembly as a rigid as possible to eliminate microphony and the heater is a twisted double helix pair to reduce any external magnetic field and hum. They also used a a finer mesh caging oto screen the anode than it competitor Mullard.

Excellent sound quality and because of this was the professional choice for demanding application . These were more expensive than the Mullard EF86 and so now is very rare.
