Philips Electronics Components Group was the name given to the products marketed in America after Philips bought the American valve manufacturer Sylvania in the early 1980’s. Sylvania was a major manufacturer of valves and Philips bought them to get the lucrative American Government and military contracts. These valves are of the highest military grade which offer outstanding performance and were all made in the USA.
Philips 5963 is a full Jan military specification valve that is a special quality ruggedized, low-noise close version of the 12AU7/ECC82.

This valve was specially designed for computers and industrial equipment for its reliability and long cutoff period. To achieve this the 5963 has a double layer and larger cathode so the valve can go long periods when not in use.

The valve also has the long plate 17mm anode plate with high quality copper support rods. Thick shark fin mica top and bottom with a tight ring halo getter. The valves special features was they were made to the tightest specification fot long life.

In most applications the 5963 can be used in place of and ECC82 or 12AU7.

Customers who have used these in place of ECC82 have said that the sound is the same
As American made Philips ECC82 and they provide a full sound stage with a bigger mid and lower end than many modern ECC82.
