In the very early 1950s CBS bought Hytron Labs who was one of the America's leading valve producers. This made the combined CBS Hytron group one of the leading suppliers and manufactures of TV and radio electronics. In the mid 1960 CBS who where hungary for market share bought Fender musician instruments.

12BY7A CBS made by General Electric in the USA. The 12BY7A was widely used by radio amateurs as a driver stage for a pair of 6146B tetrodes in the output stage of HF transmitters up to 30 MHz.

In Audio applications, The 12BY7A beam power tetrode is known for exceptional sound quality and wide frequency response. It is was used in Harman Karmon Citation II audio amplifier.

The valve quality and performance made it popular in vintage test equipment such as the vintage Tektronix 500 series oscilloscopes.
